The church was founded as early as the 14th century and gained its current appearance upon its reconstruction at the beginning of the 16th century, when it was enlarged to three naves, obtained new vaulting and a new roof, but only the 53-meter southern tower was completed. The fi ve-petalled rose coat of arms of the former owners of Prachatice, the Rožmberks, has been preserved at many places in the interior. The church gained its fi nal appearance in the 19th century when, aft er a fi re, the tower was rebuilt in 1832 in the form of a minaret. The inner decorations of the church consist of luxurious stone works and wooden Gothic reliefs decorating the early Baroque main altar. Its center is decorated with a Baroque sculpture of the Virgin Mary, St. Dominic and St. Catherine of Sienna from F. Rambler from the beginning of the 18th century.
Attraction:
An observation tower is accessible at the top of the church and is open for visitors every year from 1 June to 30 September. To reach the top, you must climb up 157 stairs, then you can enjoy a beautiful view from the height of 40 meters above the stone paving in the center of the municipal heritage reservation of Prachatice.
