The Synagogue, or Temple, was built in 1909. This was the first building in Austria-Hungary for the construction of which a reinforced concrete structure was used. The architect Viktor Kafka designed the temple as a simple one-nave building with a saddle roof and dominating eight-side tower in Neo-Romanesque style with clear signs of Art Nouveau. The synagogue was used for services until 1938, then aft er the war it served the Czechoslovak Hussite Church, and aft er 1969 as a storehouse for the stage scenery of the castle’s Baroque Theater. Aft er 1990, it was returned to the Jewish community. In 2012, the synagogue underwent a complex reconstruction.
