The Chapel of Virgin Mary, also known as the Stožec Chapel, is an example of folk wood carving. The original wooden chapel was built in 1791 by the blacksmith J. Klauser, who was grateful to the water from this spring for curing his sight. In 1804 the chapel was rebuilt, and in the 1960’s it was supplemented with a wooden annex with wood carvings. Regular August pilgrimages saw even several thousand participants. Aft er World War II, the chapter deteriorated. In 1988, the Stožec Chapel was renewed by J. Kocourek of Prachatice and since 1989 has been again inviting regular pilgrimages. At the top of mountain Stožec (976 m above sea level) above the Stožec Chapel we can fi nd a 5-meter iron cross and some remnants of a guard castle protecting the historical Golden Path. It gives a nice view over the Stožec village and the tops of the mountains Třístoličník, Trojmezná and Plechý. In good weather conditions, you can also see the tops of the Alps.
